Exposition Felix ZIEM : Travels, impressions and paradoxes
From 18 November 2011 to 28 February 2012.
To mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Félix Ziem, the City of Beaune and the Ziem Committee is staging a major exhibition featuring more than 150 paintings and drawings taken from museums and private collections.
This exceptional event is a prime opportunity to discover a prolific artist, tireless traveller and great lover of the lights of the Mediterranean.
Ziem was the first living artist to have his work exhibited in the Louvre. The themes of his work were close to those of the Orientalists, though his technique had more in common with the Impressionists. The tribute to him in Beaune reveals the personality and duality of an artist who in his lifetime was hailed as one of the great masters of French landscape painting.

- Tuesday 13 December, 6pm – “Discussion with a work of art: before and after,” by the painting restorer Françoise Le Corre, and Marion Leuba, Beaune Museums.
- Thursday 26 January, 6pm – “Ziem and Burgundy: a love/hate relationship“, by Laure Ménétrier, manager of Beaune Museums and co-commissioner of the exhibition.
- Thursday 16 February, 6pm – “Ziem – party to no art movement”, par Nicole Durand, member of the Félix Ziem Committee and co-commissioner of the exhibition.
Musical events:
- Friday 3 February, 8pm – Concert: “The musical ballades of Félix Ziem”, by musicians and teachers from the Music and Dance Conservatory of Beaune & the Beaune Country. Concept devised by the Conservatory.
- Saturday 11 February, 4pm – Recital by students from the instrument class of the Music and Dance Conservatory of Beaune & the Beaune Country.
